A year ago this morning I peed on a pregnancy test and saw a faint second line. It was my first second line ever. My conversation with A went a little something like this:
“How many lines do YOU see?” He squinted a bit and naively said, “Two. Why? What does that mean?” I explained that 2 lines means positive. He seemed utterly confused. I guess all my lectures on how nothing will ever work for us had finally begun to sink in. This was the last thing he expected. We looked at the test and looked at each other. Then I said, “Well, let’s wait for the blood test,” and got in the shower.
A year ago tomorrow I got a phone call from a nurse telling me that my beta level was 170 and I was "very pregnant." She mentioned multiples, but said that there's no way to tell from the blood test; we would know at the 6 week ultrasound.
I was planting tulip bulbs and I called my mom and told her, "The baby and I are planting tulips!" I thought about how in the spring, when the tulips came up, I would be close to having my baby.
A year ago from Monday, I got a phone call telling me that my beta level was 800 and something.
A year ago from Halloween, we had an ultrasound where we saw 2 little jelly beans with 2 little heartbeats. Dr. Chiseled wrote, "+ cardiac activity" and told me that they were measuring fine. He then checked "threatened abortion" on the diagnosis so that my insurance would pay for the ultrasound. (Abortion is the medical term for miscarriage.)
Now I am sitting here at my computer, reminiscining and breastfeeding my beautiful, healthy daughters. It's amazing what a difference a year makes.
I think October may be my favorite month.
That's awesome! What a month to remember. I'm so happy for you.

You will forever remember those moments. I do the same thing, from the time I found out I was pg to the day I went into labor and the next evening when I gave birth. I relive those moments every birthday.
Memories are precious just like the babies!

Hi Linda!
You inspired me to check out tulip planting for the fall. Unfortunately, I found out deer love 'em! And there's a herd of deer that practically live in my neighborhood. So, I guess I'll have to find something not quite so yummy for those big ol' rodents!
And I love my memories like that - October is definitely my favorite month of the year.
